Virtual interviews are here to stay. My TCTips give you the formula to Ace The Virtual Interview!

1. Set Up Your Space
- Choose a quiet, distraction-free location
- Neutral, professional background (or virtual background if necessary)
- Lighting: face a window or light source
- Check your camera angle (eye level)
2. Test Your Technology
- Internet connection
- Video platform (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc.)
- Audio – use headphones or mic for clear sound
- Test run with a friend
3. Dress the Part
- Dress as if you’re going to an in-person interview
- Avoid busy patterns or flashy jewelry
- Make sure your entire outfit is professional (not just the top)
4. Practice Your On-Camera Presence
- Maintain eye contact by looking at the camera (not the screen)
- Use natural facial expressions and hand gestures
- Sit up straight, don’t fidget or swivel
- Be mindful of delays — speak clearly and pause when needed
5. Prepare Your Content
- Research the company and role
- Be ready with strong answers to common interview questions
- Know your resume — have specific examples ready
- Keep a few notes nearby (but don’t read directly from them)
6. Engage and Build Rapport
- Open with a smile and friendly tone
- Show enthusiasm for the company and role
- Ask thoughtful questions
- Reference something the interviewer said earlier to show active listening
7. Handle Tech Issues Gracefully
- Have a backup plan (phone hotspot, dial-in number)
- Apologize briefly if a glitch happens, then keep going
- Don’t panic — staying calm shows professionalism
8. Follow Up
- Send a thank-you email within 24 hours
- Reference something specific from the conversation
- Reiterate your interest and value
My best advice is to prep and practice. This is your chance to shine, and you will!
