The perfect closing statement – Say THIS to Get the Job!
Believe it or not, I think this is one of the most important things you can do during your interview. It is all about selling yourself by taking a quick minute to share what you will bring to the role and how you will make an immediate impact.
As a hiring manager I expected applicants to have already done their homework to learn about the role, the company and my team (if they are an internal applicant). I would answer their questions after the interview, but I personally think this is a waste of valuable time.
Here is what you should do with that precious bit of time you have to make an impression –
State the most important skills you bring to the role and how they will allow you to make a difference. It can go something like this –
“I don’t have any questions but would love to share a couple things about myself.
I bring 2 years of coaching experience that will allow me to connect with my people quickly. I will be able to assess performance, get to the root cause of any opportunities and create a game plan for success. I am excited for the chance to work with you.”
Things to consider –
- It may feel like bragging, and it should! This is your time to share and shine.
- Get over not feeling comfortable selling yourself! That is what interviewing is all about.
- One of your goals is to find a way to stand out from your competition. Not many people will be as bold.
- You want to leave the interviewer with something they did not expect that also makes them remember that moment with you.
- Use what you know the team needs and let them know how you can quickly make a difference.
Be Specific, Be Bold, Be Direct.
