Setting goals is key to accomplishing just about anything in life.

Let’s talk about why you fail to do it!
The list of reasons could look something like this:
- You were not taught to do it while growing up
- Fear of failure
- No clear plan
- Not sure what you want
- Lack of motivation
- Limited self-belief
The truth is whether you need to clean out a closet or purchase a new home, the best way to get it done is by setting goals.
I don’t want to focus on why you are not doing it. If you are serious about accomplishing small or large things you have come to the right place!
This is not a particularly complex or difficult matter. The key is to decide what you want then create a list of milestones and tasks to get you to the finish line.

Determine What You Want
Clarify your vision and make it meaningful. What matters most to you right now? Turn vague wishes into clear statements.
Instead of “I want to be healthier” say “I want to walk 2 miles 3 times a week”.
We will use this goal as we walk through the steps.
Set Milestones – Turn your big goal into smaller trackable stages.
Identify major checkpoints –
- What needs to happen first, second, and so on?
TCTip to consider –
Do you have walking shoes? If not, add this to your task list.
- What does progress look like along the way?
TCTip to consider –
Breakdown the 2 miles into smaller distances such as a quarter mile and increase it as you feel comfortable.
Set Realistic Timeframes
- When do you want to hit each milestone?
- Build in buffer time for obstacles or rest.
TCTip to consider –
Give yourself grace if you get off track, but don’t stop walking.
Make Milestones Measurable
- How will you know when you have reached each one?
- When would you like to accomplish your goal?
TCTip to consider –
Journal to keep track of your progress. You may have a gadget that can track your progress.
Set a date such as 6 months from now.
Adjust and celebrate!
- Review and check your progress. Determine if that is weekly, biweekly or monthly.
- Assess what is working and tweak as needed. Be honest with yourself.
- Life happens, so don’t get discouraged.
- Recognize your effort to build momentum.
- Treat yourself or share your success with a friend.
Now you may be thinking this all sounds easy but still does not work for you. Maybe you have tried it before and don’t have confidence you will follow through. We have all been there.
